Since 2005 almost 50 women from around our county have come together once a month to participate in a Quilters Guild. Quilters from Pitman, Washington Township, Glassboro, Wenonah and the vicinity have the opportunity to join women from Good Shepherd for an evening of sharing their mutual love of quilting. Members enjoy each other’s company as they share quilting experiences, stories, buying adventures, and the fruits of our labors. Each year features a specific quilt pattern that is easy for all levels of quilters, but that will also bring a level of interest for those who have a bit more experience. Our numbers have grown largely in part to the need of women to participate in the rewarding experience of creating a thing of beauty in textile art form and having a unique and enriching fellowship.
Philanthropic projects have benefited military veterans in hospitals with lap quilts, Stockings for Soldiers that are sent to our troops deployed overseas, neonatal units in hospitals with preemie quilts, pillowcases sponsored by Ryan Case for Smiles for children who have to spend a great deal of time in hospitals, quilts to an Inuit village in the remote areas of the Alaskan bush, quilts for the babies of young mothers at Choices of the Heart in Turnersville and Kind Quilts that distributes lap quilts to lift the spirits of seriously ill children. Future projects proposed are walker tote bags for seniors in assisted living, cheery surgical caps for children to wear as they prepare for a procedure, and quilts for the veterans housing project at the Village Dock Campsite sponsored by Amazing Grace Ministries in Franklinville, NJ.
Occasionally guest speakers are invited to share their expertise and knowledge. Every June we have a display of our project quilts and share our experiences in a party atmosphere.
Quilters Guild Meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday; 6:30 -8:00 PM in the Parish Hall and are scheduled from September through June (excluding December). Quilters are given membership cards that entitle them to discounts at many local quilting supply stores. New members are always welcome.
I would like to donate quilting supplies, material, thread and patterns. Everything is in very good, clean condition from smoke & pet free home.
